2009
• January 9: Book Launch: "The Thirteenth Dalai Lama's Biography" by Prof. Narkyid Ngawang Dhondup. Prof. Pramanand Sharma, former principal of Government college, Dharamshala will introduce and launch the book "The Thirteenth Dalai Lama's Biography" by Prof. Narkyid Ngawang Dhondup
• January 12 - 14: Geshe will attend the first of the three Cross Cultural Conversation International Conference hosted by India Habitat Centre and the Indian Council of World Affairs. The director will present a paper on Relevance of Compassion in Today's Turbulent World. The conference will be attend by eminent speakers such as well-known philosopher Gianni Vattimo, Ambassador Girgio Giacomelli, the anthropologist Prof. Sol Katz, Dirk Evers, the present Italian ambassador R. Toscano, theologians like Bob Carroll, Prof. Reinhold Bernhardt, S, Goswami, Homi Dhalla, Ashgar Ali Engineer, Dr. Karan Sing and others.
• January 20 - January 31: LTWA will organise a 10 day Science Leadership Training for around 40 monks and nuns at the Central Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, Varanasi . The Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies has very kindly agreed to provide the needed assistance in organising this event. Our very old and reliable friend Bobby Sager and his family foundation will look after the expenses.
• February 12 & 13: LTWA's Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la will give series of talks Empowering the Future to talk on Basic Buddhist meditation, Ethics in Personality Development and Human Relations, Interactive Session and group discussion and presentation session in Panchagani, Pune.
• March 16 to 20: LTWA's Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la will attend the Translating the Words of the Buddha Conference. This is organised by Khyentse Foundation Translators Conference Deer Park Institute, Bir, Himachal Pradesh , India
• May 1 - May 16: The third Science Leadership Training will be organised at Solan Bon Monastery. LTWA's Director and staffs from the science section visited the Bon Monastery and met with the Abbot Venerable Lopon Tenzin Namdak and other staffs. They were all very supportive of this programme. We are all looking forward with great excitement for this programme as this progamme will also help the monks from various traditions know the Bon tradition at first hand.
• May 20 - June 20: the second Emory Science Initiative will be organised at the Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah. We expect to give one month intensive science teaching to around 90 monks and nuns representing all Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
• June 1 - August 31: the 4th Three Month Intensive Translation Training by LTWA will be organised. Around 25 trainees will be selected for this programme.  
• November 10 to 15: Geshe will give his fourth annual dharma Talk at India Habitat Centre, Delhi. In addition to the daily talks there will also be opportunity for individual consultations. This programme is organised jointly by Foundation for Universal Responsibility, Delhi and Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Dharamsala
• December 14 to 22: Geshe will attend the BUDDHA DHARMA WEEK - 2009 jointly organised by Dharma Rain Centre, Mumbai and Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Dharamsala.

Past Events & Activities: 2008

• December 24 & 25: LTWA's Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la will give series of talk on Traditional Tibetan studies on the occasion of the fourth workshop, to be held from 23 Dec. to 3 January, organised by the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamsala. These workshops are organised in connection with New Education Policy with regard to the primary teachers who are teaching from class 1 to 5. The teachers attending these courses will be from TCV Upper, Lower, Gopalpur, Chauntra, Suja and from the Tibetan Homes Foundation Mussoorie and Rajpur
•

December 24: Nicole Willock, PhD candidate, gave talk on "The Tree of Learning: Researching the Life of Alak Tseten Zhabdrung Jigme Rigpe Lodro (1920-1985)"

Nicole Willock is a dual PhD candidate in the Departments of Religious Studies and Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA. She spent ten months from January to October 2008 at teh Qinghai Nationalities University conduction research on the life of Tsetan Zhabdrung, one of the great modern Tibetan scholars.

• December 13 - December 21, 2008: LTWA's Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la visited Mumbai from December 13 to 22 to attend the BUDDHA DHARMA WEEK - 2008 jointly organised by Dharma rain Centre and Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Dharamsala. During this one week Geshe la spoke on Compassion and Forgiveness, gave a Public Talk in Hindi on "THE SELF IS THE PROTECTOR OF THE SELF" at Chunabhatti  Buddha Vihara, Chunabhatti East, Meet with Dharma Rain Core Group, have Interaction with School/College Students J. B. Petit school / National College / SIES College, give a Public talk at Theosophy Hall, New Marine Lines on "INNER  STABILITY FOR EXTERNAL STABILITY " at PEN All-India Centre ( SpiritLevel@ PEN ) and book launch some of the recent LTWA publications, attend the Sophia Polytechnic - Interaction with Students SCM (Social Communications and Media) Course where the Film "Cry of The Snow Lion" (25 min. version) - was screened and Geshe la gave Talk on "Peace in This World" - followed by Question and Answer session. Geshe la will also have informal meeting with Lokamitra ji, director of the Manuski Buddhist Centre and Dr. K. Sankarnarayan, Director, Somaiya Centre of Buddhist Studies. Geshe will also attend a conference on "Philosophy at The Crossroads" at Somaiya Centre of Buddhist Studies which was also attended by other speakers Dr Philip Clayton , ICPS Guest Lecturer - "Panentheisms East and West" ; Dr Shalva Weil, Senior Researcher, Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Geshe will speak on "Buddhism: Faith Based Religion or Rational Philosophy ?" During this visit to Mumbai Geshe la will also give a Public Talk at Manuski Centre, Pune on "IS SPIRITUAL PRACTICE RELEVANT IN THE 21ST CENTURY ?" Geshe then led a Retreat at Kondhanpur ( suituated at outskirts of Pune) and taught on Shantideva's "Siksha Samuccaya" (A Compendium of Precepts). Geshe returned to Dharamsala on 23rd December.
• December 24: LTWA organised one day seminar on the next release of Monlam Bodyig 3

October 22, 2008: Talk by Prof. Aguilar on The Jesuits in Tibet at the time of the VI and VII Dalai Lamas

September 01, 2008: Talk by Dr. Nimrod Aloni on Humanistic Education

Dr. Nimrod Aloni is a senior lecturer in the area of Philosophy of Education at Kibbutzim College of Education , He is also the Head of the Institute of Educational Thought and holds "The UNESCO Chair in Humanistic Education".

• August 14, 2008: The director gave one hour talk on the first point of the Six Session Practice to around 25 Delek Hospital Staffs
• Special Class on Tibetan Language and Buddhist Philosophy in Tibetan from July 1 to August 31, 2008
• July 29 to August 7, 2008: The First Highest Translation Committee Meeting organised by Department of Education was held to finalise the first batch of translation on Administration, Science, Education and Medicine. The members present were Acharya Karma Monlam (Department of Education), Geshe Lhakdor (Director of LTWA), Ven Lobsang Norbu Shastri (Central Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, Varanasi ), Mr. Thupten Tendhar (Tibetan Children's Village) and Dr. Pema Dorjee (Tibetan Medical Institute, Dharamsala)
• July 22, 2008: The director taught Atisha's Lamp of the Path in Hindi to around 25 Indian Buddhist youths from Bihar, UP, Orissa etc. This was done at the request of the Deer Park, Old Dzongsar Institute, Bir.
• July 20 to 25, 2008: Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and TCV Gopalpur invited the director of LTWA as resource person on Buddhism for the 8th Inter-School Program, North India from 20 to 26 July 2008. The director gave a series of talks on fundamentals of Buddhism and meditation to around 60 students from St. Paul's Senior Secondary Schoo, Palampur, New Holy Mission Senior School, Chahain Nagri, Delhi School, Central School for Tibetans, Mussoorie, Shimla, Dolanji, Ponta, Chauntra, Dalhousie, Herbertpur, TCV, Upper Dharamsala, Lower Dharamsala, Suja, Chauntra, Gopalpur and around 13 escort teachers from these schools.
• July 03, 2008: The director gave an hour introductory talk on Buddhism to around 25 staffs of Delek Hospital, Dharamsala
• July 01, 2008: The director gave an hour talk to around 30 international students. It was arranged by the Cross Culture International, Dharamsala branch.
• June 25, 2008: As invited by The Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration the director gave two hour talk to around 25 full bright Tibetan students who were leaving for US for their studies.
• June 22 - 26, 2008: Prof. Eric W. Cowan and 10 graduate students attended the Library dharma classes taught by Geshe Sonam Rinchen and the director also gave a special talk related to Tibetan culture and Tibetan studies.
• June 21, 2008: The director gave one hour talk to students from Arkansa University, USA at the LTWA conference hall.
• June 5, 2008: The director gave an hour talk to around 20 international students as organised by Cross Culture group .
• June 2 to August 30, 2008: Three months intensive translator's training was organised. It was attended by around 30 students including those from Brazil , US, Germany and Russia . The workshop covered various methods and practices adopted in the translation of Buddhist teachings and scriptures.

June 2, 2008: Took tour of the Library and gave talk to a group of twenty women students stuyding social justice issues in India from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA accompanied by Prof. David T. Schmit.

• June 26, 2008: The Library of Tibetan Works & Archive organised a talk - "The XIIIth Dalai Lama in Exile - 1908 at Rgya nag Ribo rtse lnga (Wutai Shan)" by Professor Elliot Sperling (Department of Central Eurasian Studies, Indiana University)
• May 22, 2008: Penguin Books India and LTWA celebrated the publication of To Uphold the World , the message of Ashoka & Kautilya for the 21st Century. The Library's Director introduced the book and the author Bruce Rich gave a talk on the book followed by question and answer. It was attended by around 40 people from various countries.
• May 21, 2008: A talk on Tibetan culture was given to around 30 international students. It was organised by Cross Culture International, Dharamsala Branch.
• May 19 to June 14, 2008 Emory Tibet Science Initiatives (first workshop)

February 18 - 20 February, 2008: As requested by a group of people from Peru, Argentina, Switzerland and Kuwait, Geshe Lhakdor la, the Director of the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives (LTWA), is giving a three-day teaching on Lama Tsongkhapa's The Condensed Meaning of the Stages of the Path (Lam-rim bsdus-don) or A Song of Experience (Lam-rim nyams-mgur). Those who are interested can also join the teaching and register at the main office at the Library.
• February 15, 2008: As requested by the Cross-Cultural Solutions, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la, the Director of the LTWA will give an hour talk on Tibetan culture. The talk is open to all.
• January 16 - January 20, 2008: LTWA's Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la, attended the Tibet Festival in Ahmedabad organised by Alliance France in Conjunction with the Department of Information and International relations, the Darpana Academy and the Kanoria Centre for Arts. His Holiness gave public talk during the festival. LTWA Director gave talk followed by question and answer session on 20 January.
• January 7 - January 16, 2008: Synopsis on various science subjects including Cosmology, Neuroscience and Biology was held every evening followed by Q&A attended by crowd of over two thousand monks at Drepung Monaster, Mundgod, South India.

December 17 to December 22, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave talk on 'Introduction to Buddhism' to Tibetan students in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Goa and Pune

• December 24 to December 29, 2008: LTWA & Science Meets Dharma organised annual Science Translation Training.
• December 15 - December 16, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave valuable inputs during workshop/retreat organised by Chunabhatti Buddha Vihara.

December 14, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave public talk to a mainly Buddhist audience from the local area, and other members of the - Chunabhatti Buddha Vihara. Marathi translation of the talk was also arranged.

December 13, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la was invited as one of the key speaker for Talk and Discussion at P.E.N. All India Centre, Theosophy Hall. LTWA Director gave talk on “Faith and Reason in the Dharma” followed by discussion.

The same day, Interaction with the college students within the campus was also held .

December 11, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave public talk on “The Wheel of Life (Bhava Chakra)” at Manuski Centre, Deccan College Road, Yerawada.

Director also unveiled the tracing of the Wheel of Life and give a talk on its significance. The tracing was made in 1948 by Li Gotami from the Tsaporang Caves in Tibet.

December 10, 2007 (U.N. Human Rights Day): LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la was invited to join Panel Discussion on "Human Rights - Tibet, Burma and India" organised by: Dharma Rain Centre, Friends of Tibet (India)ICCF (Indian Committee for Cultural Freedom). Director highlighted on “Human Rights in Tibet – 50 years of ‘Liberation Through Cultural Genocide.”

December 8, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave public talk on "The Art of Living & Dying" at Gita Mandir, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chowpatty -- Sponsored by: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Dharma Rain Centre, LTWA , ICCF (Indian Committee for Cultural Freedom )

• From 25 to 26 November, 2007: As requested by Ladakh Culture House and Ladakh students association in Chandigarh, LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave introductory Buddhist course.

November 19 to 24, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la highlighted on the 'Four Noble Truth' organised by Foundation for Universal Responsibility and Peace at India Habitat Centre to a audience of around 50 people including foreigners, Tibetan students and primarily Indian elites.

• November 17, 2007: LTWA organised workshop on Earthquake Risk - Preparedness" by Tom and Hari.
• November 3 - November 11, 2007: Geshe Lhakdor, Director LTWA, was invited to give a talk on His Holiness's immediate and long term vision and also to provide guidance how best we can follow it at the nine day workshop organised by Service Commission office of Tibetan Government-in-exile, for the newly recruited Tibetan Government officials.

Oct 19, 2007: The briefing of ETSI’s (Emory-Tibet science initiative) aims and objective was held at Ritz Carlton, Atlanta in presence of H. H the Dalai lama, President of Emory University, Prime Minister of CTA - Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche and members of ETSI.

Oct 20, 2007: Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la and four other Geshe from the LTWA’s Science for monks program traveled to Emory University, Atlanta to participate in the XV Mind and Life conference: Mindfulness, Compassion, and the Treatment of Depression.

Oct 21, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la and four Geshes participated in the First Emory Summit on Religion, Conflict, and Peace building in the afternoon.

•

Oct 21, 2007: A fund raising dinner was held for the ETSI (Emory-Tibet science initiative) which is collaboration between Emory University and LTWA to educate monastic in scientific studies.

• Oct 22, 2007: Monks visited various facilities including Library, departments and scientific laboratories
• October 3 to October 7, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave Buddhist teaching in Delhi.

July 16 to July 29, 2007: On request from Dharma Friends and Yativ (IFTIP -Israeli Friends of Tibetan People), LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave teachings on Lam Rim along with a short introduction to the concept of Lam Rim. Discussion session were also organised Guru Devotion and Precious Human Rebirth.

Director also gave a general introduction to Tibetan Buddhism mainly for the beginners.  

Director also gave public talks to the general audience on Tibetan Buddhism followed by question and answer session

Director also gave speech to a combined audience of Dharma Friends and Yativ (IFTIP -Israeli Friends of Tibetan People), on Library of Tibetan Works & Archives and its initiatives.

July 16 - July 26, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la was invited to give talk on 'Fundamental Concepts of Buddhism' and on the 'Importance of religion for this and next life' at the Summer Educational Camp (SEC) organised for the young Tibetans of age group between 16 and 30 by the Centre Yonten Ling Institute in collaboration with Bureau du Tibet, France.

• June 1 to August 31, 2007: Three months annual Translator Training Workshop was held at the Library.
• June 14 to July 5, 2007 Annual Science for Monks workshop organised the Library was held in Bir, Northern India.
• May 19 - May 21, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la was invited to the annual Buddhist Conference
• April 8, 2007: Argentinean film producer, Marisa Escasany, and her film crew who are making a documentary on His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited Library and interviewed LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la on 'the background story of His Holiness's dialogues with the Modern Scientists'.
• April 8 - April 18, 2007: Mr Bryce Johnson, Bobby Sage and Rachel related to Science Project visited Library.
• April 8 - April 18, 2007: Dr. Elisa Harumi Kozasa, Researcher, Behaviuoral Medicine Unit, UNIFESP-Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo arrived Dharamsala and surveyed Library of Tibetan Works & Archives (LTWA)
• March 22 - March 27, 2007: Mr. Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee and team from the Global Oneness Project, interviewed the Library's Director on the oneness from Buddhist perspective.
• March 26, 2007: Julie Marron, professional editor from Australia arrived and volunteered with the Library with the Library English publication work for about 6 months.

March 22, 2007: Talk by Dongthog Rinpoche – author of New Light English-Tibetan Dictionary

March 17, 2007:LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la was invited by Sambhota Tibetan Schools Administration to give ‘Presentation on Law of Causality' to the directors of the Tibetan Residential and Day Schools

March 6 – March 8, 2007: Library took part in the 2nd International Conference on Central Asian Studies and the Early History of Tibet

March 5 – March 11, 2007: On invitation from His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Foundation for Universal Responsibility, Geshe Lhakdor la, Director of Library of Tibetan Works & Archives gave teachings on Tsongkhapa's Spiritual Songs of Experience at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

February 26 - March 1, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave talk on 37 Bodhisattava Practices in the dharma Hall at LTWA organised by LTWA and Peruvian Dharma Friends.
• February 21, 2007: Mr. Han Hyunwoo of the CHOSUN ILBO (Daily Newspaper) South Korea visited the Library and met with the director.
• February 20, 2007: Ann Shaftel, thanka restoration and preservation expert visited Library and presented her valuable suggestions and recommendations.
• February 17, 2007: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave lecture on Tibetan Buddhist Culture to around 14 BA students from various universities in America, such as UCLA, Berkeley, Boston, Long Isle University, NY etc. organised by Dr. Amarjiva, University of Delhi.

February 14, 2007: One of the collections of the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives – a rare and handwritten manuscript titled ‘Phags pa bskal pa bzang po zhes bya ba theg pa chen po'i mdo (Aryabhadra-kaapika-nama-mahayana-sutra) was awarded as ‘Manuscript Treasure of India' by the National Manuscript Mission.

February, 2007: Much awaited Monlam Bodyig-II was launched with the initiative of Library of Tibetan Works & Archives with the attendance of people from various press.

December 18, 2006: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la gave talk on Milarepa the Yogi in Delhi.

December 27, 2006: LTWA Director, Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la was invited by Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre (TPPRC) to give talk to Tibetan college going youths.

November 30 –December 1, 2006: Seminar on Tibet 's History was organised. His His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama graced the opening day of the 3 Day seminar.
